Player Information

Player Responsibility

Being an Oakland Catholic Soccer Player now requires that you take on another level of responsibility for yourself as an athlete.  It is no longer enough just to go through the motions of a practice.  You should be ready and willing to listen and do what the coaches instruct you to do, all the time.  What follows are some practical suggestions that you can adhere to in order to make the most out of your individual and team training times. It is most fun to be playing the game, so you need to do everything in your power to make sure that when the opportunity arises, you are ready!

Ready To Play

You should bring the following with you to every training session:

1. Shin Guards
2. Both cleats and running shoes
3. Extra shoe laces
4. Emergency phone numbers
5. Extra clothes (socks, sweats, gloves, etc.)
6. Keepers should bring gloves and long pants incase the field is poor.

In short, you should be ready for anything!!!  Put these items in your bag the night before a training session or game so that you don’t have to hunt them down and be late the next day.  Be at training early enough to be able to get your gear on and are ready to start on time. The more time we have not changing clothes, shoes & getting ready, the more time we will have to play !!!

Practicing On Your Own

The best thing you can do is to get some friends together, set up a small field, choose sides, and play the game!  Sometimes, invite players that are older and better than you.  The most important thing is that you play.  If you cannot get others to join you, spend as much time with the ball as you can.  Find a wall to kick against, invent juggling games for yourself, try to chip the ball into a garbage can from various distances or set and try to beat your own juggling records.  Be creative and have fun.  Above all, realize that it is not up to your coach or parents to help you get better.  You have to claim responsibility for your own development.  Once you realize how much fun it is to play the game with skill, you’ll never want to stop.

This is the time to learn and take your game to the next level.  To accomplish this, you will need to work, study and improve on your own, away from the training field.  Are to ready to accept the challenge?  You need to make up your mind before you start that sacrifice is part of the package.  Remember … The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little extra.  If you have the courage to begin, you have the courage to finish.

We are a team here, and as a team, we win and lose.  There is no room for blame on this team.  We are all in this together.  Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to produce uncommon results.   Some teams dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.  To be a winner, all you need to give is all you have.
